What is Pilates?


Pilates is a full-body system of specific sequenced exercises performed on the mat and specially designed equipment. The method is centered around the concepts of awareness, balance, breath, centering, concentration, control, flowing movement, and precision. The principle of Pilates is to uniformly develop the body and mind.

The Pilates method is an exercise/movement technique which trains practitioners to integrate the use of mind and body during the performance of its exercises. Through this integration, Pilates creates positive overall physical benefits.
Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing is a primary focus. Strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdomen and back muscles, coordination-both Hypnofit Mauimuscular and mental, are key components in an effective Pilates program. Posture, balance, and core strength are all heartily increased. Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time. Pilates teaches balance and control of the body, and that capacity spills over into other areas of one's life.  

Private sessions are designed for those who want the most personalized and flexible workout option available. Each lesson is geared specifically towards attaining your personal goals (versus meeting the needs of a group class).


Semi-Private sessions are avaiable for couples or friends wishing to have a class "just to them." Private Lessons can be in rehabilitative, therapeutic or fitness oriented and are available in matwork, reformer or all equipment.
